Googling the word “grifter” will get you the following A grifter is a con artist: someone who swindles people out of money through fraud.
If there’s one type of person you don’t want to trust, it’s a grifter: someone who cheats others out of money. Grifters are also known as chiselers, defrauders, gougers, scammers, swindlers, and flim-flam men.
This is what I got with a search of the definition of a politician.
Politics (from Greek: Πολιτικά, politiká, ‘affairs of the cities’) is the set of activities that are associated with making decisions in groups, or other forms of power relations between individuals, such as the distribution of resources or status. The academic study of politics is referred to as political science.
What we’re witnessing in this country right now is the cross-breeding of the 2.
Call them a “griftician”, or maybe “poligrifter” Just get on camera and “social” media and say whatever is most likely to rile up the viewers enough to motivate them to send you money.
This rant (I admit it) comes after watching hours of the events taking place in Washington D.C. on the now infamous Jan. 6th. Not once did I hear from any commentator that this cynical generation of “outrage” is the key element in raising cash for the “poligrifter”. We’ve heard the grifticians publicly complain, “I am always running for office, from the moment I’m sworn in to the day of the next election.” The most unscrupulous of these creatures have turned this process into a fine science. The donors run the poligrifters and they in turn run the donors with their hyperbolic claims, lies, and incendiary rhetoric hot enough to incite violence.
One solution would be term limits. Thankfully, it exists for the President. Will it ever happen for legislators? The answer is another question. Would you vote to eliminate your job? One real solution would be a privately funded drive to amend the constitution which requires a two thirds majority to pass. Good luck with that. What we have now is only getting worse and shows no sign of turning around.
I apologize for not ending with a pithy witticism. January 6th, 2021 wasn’t funny.
