Unless you watched MSNBC on Wednesday morning this week you won’t know what a cold tongue is. If you are a climate scientist you probably do.
But let your imagination run free for a couple of minutes and respond to this article with your first guess.
A couple of months ago the mainstream media was full of references to “atmospheric rivers”. That term disappeared quickly when it was revealed that not only is the term about 30 years, all it means is that an ordinary high moisture, low pressure front is on its way.
Excessive dramatization of the climate crisis is a fulltime job. Mind you, I’m not a climate crisis denier, I’m simply saying that it’s amusing to watch the media ratchet up their rhetoric.
In my research of this topic, I came across a Glossary of climate change terminology.
Here it is; from A to Z.

I was very disappointed to find that one of the most recent and provocative terms, “cold tongue” was not included. It’s not what your probably imagining right now. And it not a sausage. It is … wait for it … A measure of the anomaly in sea-surface temperature in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific relative to the annual cycle.
Of course, understanding what that actually means requires even more research which I’m not quite up for right now.
But, here are a couple more teaser terms to stimulate your imagination

How ’bout we create a TV Game Show dedicated solely to climate change terminology? Watch out Jeopardy!
Going forward every article will include one of my newly completed puzzles made suitable for display in your home. It’s the core of my new business, Puzzlupagus.com.
You make an offer and we negotiate from there. I don’t make any profit. I’m a puzzling fanatic and I love each and every one of them. I’m just trying to find a good home for them where they be appreciated. Email us at jmkrueger@nc.rr.com if you’re interested.
