Homeward Bound

We were sitting in a railway station — had our tickets for our destination. We were on a tour of one day stops — a dozen small towns the names of which I can’t recall — our suitcases in hand. No guitar! Every stop had been neatly planned a few months ago over the phone by my brother and I.

Now we were homeward bound. Both of our families waited, just slightly anxious, but seldom silent, for us.

The 2 of us were the only ones waiting for the train. I can’t say why, but the Simon and Garfunkel classic popped into my head and I began to sing. My brother spontaneously jumped in, singing the melody while I took Garfunkel’s harmony.

I cannot recall the 2 of us ever discussing this impromptu duet afterwards.

But, in my life’s Odyssey, it was a moment I’ll always cherish.

  1. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Both this one and the “Chloe and Mabel” articles were spontaneous ideas which I acted on immediately. Wish I was inspired like this all day, but I honestly think it’s the caffeine.
