My daily exercise, for the moment, is a 2 mile walk. Our home sits in a relatively small development which includes a small park, about 2 acres. I love it. The park is named after its benefactor, Mary Hayes Barber Holmes.
As you approach the park itself, a stairway takes you up to the walking trail. Today, on the first step of the stairway sat the small rock that you see above. With a little research, I discovered that this “rock” is, in fact, a “worry stone”.
How it got there, I have no idea, but, it sat right where I stop to catch my breath at the end of a long hill. I usually put my left hand on the railing and bend over slightly to catch my breath. That’s how the stone, most certainly a sign from above, caught my eye.
Anyone who knows me knows about my “short fuse”, or quick temper. It runs in the family. I’ve been retired for 9 years now which means my wife of 57 years has to deal with it fulltime. I would love to put the ranting or raving to rest. The daily dose of caffeine is counterproductive. I realize that. But, after 61 years of daily doses, that’s not going to change. I fear that the “worry rock” is my only hope.
Maybe converting it to a necklace and constantly wearing it? Or, have my wife use it on me — David and Goliath style?
If anyone who knows me wanted to send me a message like “chill”, calm down”, or “don’t be such an a-hole”, this worry stone and its message is a perfect gift for me.
Is there a higher power at work here? What appears to be only coincidence, also appears to be intentional.
You’re probably wondering, “Is it working?”. Well, not perfectly. I still curse the DVR after I’ve pushed the wrong button and the DVR responds accordingly.
