Do It!

For about the last 6 months I have a little mind game that I use first thing in the morning.

I invite you to try it.

Start your day with the realization that you/we have a choice — a critical choice. We can choose to pursue a positive daily goal, or we can dwell on the negative past.

Take 5 minutes in a quiet place. Alert the family that you are taking your 5 minute “choice” break. They need to know what the ” 5 minutes” is about. Explain to them what it is and invite them to do the same. It’s voluntary.

Examples: You may want to apologize to someone whom you offended unfairly, or, introduce yourself to the family which just moved in next door, or maybe clean and organize the garage. The range of choices is infinite but, so far, I’ve found that it’s critical that you choose wisely —– be realistic/practical.

Sitting on my desk at my right elbow right now is a copy of Jimmy Carter’s “malaise” speech from 1979. I’m doing an analysis of it with the underlying theme that today’s mood in America is a repeat of 1979. To a large extent, in America, with so much to be thankful for, that same “malaise” has crept into the collective outlook in this country. To a degree it’s baffling. But, what can be done about it?

Imagine if a highly recognizable public figure with an approval level over 80%, and there are several, began leading us using the strength of their popularity. Encouraging all of us to choose daily achievable goals.

Is it only wishful thinking or, will all of America’s garages be clean and organized in 2024?

P.S. Those 2 dogs are smiling.
