Sweet Black Cherries

“Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries” is a song that’s been bouncing around my brain for many years. The only part I remember is this:

Life is just a bowl of cherries
Don’t take it serious; it’s too mysterious
You work, you save, you worry so
But you can’t take your dough when you go, go, go

So keep repeating it’s the berries
The strongest oak must fall
The sweet things in life, to you were just loaned
So how can you lose what you’ve never owned?
Life is just a bowl of cherries
So live and laugh at it all

I wasn’t around in 1931 when the song was written. Nor could I tell you when, how, or why I learned the exact lyrics.

I can tell you that the lyrics fit my personal philosophy perfectly.

“Everything is funny to Someone” I couldn’t find attribution for this saying. But, it too, has been stuck in my brain for about as long as “Cherries ….”.

Taken together, that makes life one long continuous stand-up comedy routine staged in a tacky comedy club which won’t exist for long. Enjoy life. Ignore all the crap that comes with it.

Pretty cynical, I know.

But cynicism can be fun too.

Let’s have some ”Cherries”.

I actually had a bowl of cherries last night. I had decided to write on this topic, believe it or not, before my wife bought the cherries. Sweet Black Cherries is the official name.

In one cup {“Bowl”} of this delightful treat you get the following:• Calories: 97• Protein: 2 grams• Carbs: 25 grams• Fiber: 3 grams• Vitamin C: 18% of the Daily Value (DV)• Potassium: 10% of the DV• Copper: 5% of the DV• Manganese: 5% of the DV

Right now, you may be asking yourself “Where, for the love of God, is this guy going with this topic?”

I have the same question.

I’m testing all options.

Should I get even more philosophical and cynical?

Should this be strictly about the nutritional benefits of Sweet Black Cherries?

Should I go “James Joyce” on you?? That Stream of consiousness thing?

Maybe I should take the literal interpretation of the song title and examine the impact of living in a bowl of cherries???

2 elderly gentlemen are standing in front of their life-long buddy’s tombstone paying their respects.

His epitaph reads “Wish you were here!” (which is beside the point here, but I just had to work it in).

Anyway, one of the 2 gentlemen asks the other, “How much did he leave?”

The other guy responds, “All of it!”

So, “Live, love, and laugh at it all.”
